See Beautiful Ontario Places in Photos

Updated on April 18, 2015

Ontario, a great place to live in or visit!

If you live in Ontario , you have so many places to go on a getaway from where you live. If you are visiting, your hosts will no doubt bring you to all the local attractions, because that is what we do! If you are a tourist there are many packages available through your travel agents.

So here is a quick overview...

Ontario has many lakes and rivers for the outdoor enthusiast. Ontario is bordered on the south by almost all the Great Lakes!

Toronto, the capital of Ontario, is the hub of multiculturism and a crossroads of the world that boasts the best entertainment possible.

Ontario even has a mountain (well...not huge... Blue Mountain that hosts many ski resorts in central Ontario) and also has some panoramic views of Georgian Bay from one side. Another geographical feature of the province, is the Niagara Escarpment in Southern Ontario. We share Niagara Falls with the United States.

There is a huge nature trail (Bruce Trail) that goes through some old growth forests. There are farmlands, villages, wilderness (far North, Algonquin Park), beaches, camping, boating, fishing. The cities all have cultural events, fairs and just about anything one wants to find.

Central and Southern Ontario are especially great destinations for "daytripping".

Ontario has a variety of different landscapes making it an interesting province to visit and drive around in. The province has three main highways: 401, 400 and highway 17, with shorter highways like 416, that connect some of the larger highways to each other.

Eastern Ontario has Ottawa, our national capital, which is lush and beautiful in the summer. Ottawa hosts the Tulip Festival every spring; the city is a "must see" location with galleries and natural beauty along the Ottawa River. The Ottawa Valley was originally an ancient seabed; the flatness of the area can be viewed across the river from Gatineau Hills in Quebec.

Southern Ontario has lush and rolling farmlands and large sprawling cities which give way increasingly to rock outcrops, marshland and lakes in central Ontario.

Central Ontario has has Georgian Bay, which is one of my personal favourite vacation spots with the Blue Mountains in the Collingwood area, which is also a well-known ski destination in winter. Georgian Bay has many beautiful beaches with Wasaga Beach being the most famous with warm shallow waters and beaches that go on forever!

You can take your car on the ferry for an open water cruise from Tobermory . During the trip you lose sight of land completely as the ferry makes way to Manitoulin Island another popular destination for tourists.

The further north you go on the 400, the scenery becomes more rugged, but just as beautiful, characterized by dark coniferous pine trees and dark deep rivers and lakes and rugged rock outcrops. Be on the lookout for little "Inukshuks" built by travellers along the way to greet travellers.

Go further North still towards Timmins and you will be driving through tracts of forests, kilometers away from civilization where hunters and fishermen go for their wilderness experiences.

Along the highways and back roads you could chance to see the odd deer. On a recent trip, we witnesses two. One was walking across the highway at night (a dangerous situation for animal and car) and the other was standing observing traffic during the day on the return trip from Sudbury.

Ontarians are, for the most part, friendly and willing to give directions and tell you where the best places to eat and sightsee are. So should you want to travel in Ontario...Welcome and glad you stopped by!
